I have two ammo pouches, we can both wear one three-pouch 98k cartridge pouch each. This is not unrealistic. I will wear my tunic and you can use my Great Coat. Do you have a belt and buckel to wear on the outside? Food Bag, canteen, shovel? You can skip Y straps if you are wearing the coat. You can get a reproduction helmet strap for a German helmet online. Here is one for $15. Let me know if you really are going to order it as I would like to get something from this site and we can save a little on shipping. www.hessenantique.com/category_s/47.htmI was told that there was another guy that wanted to be German but I don't know yet if he has any equipment. I "might" be able to bring one or two more more out with me. We should work something out if that many actually do appear and we need to equip them all. Your flectarn might come in handy. Klaus

Ok cool, Sean. I have a belt and buckle but the buckle is pre-war and brass, hopefully I won't get clubbed over the head for it. What size is the great coat? I usually take extra large for stuff to fit me in the arms. I am 6'2" and 206lbs.
Where can I get a set of those boot wrap things too?

The coat is presumably size 40 regular but they are made large to fit over your wool tunic so it is pretty big on me. I also have a reproduction Zeltbahn (shelter quarter) that can be used as a poncho. I have worn it like this several times in the rain and it worked great to keep me dry and warm. Just wear an appropriately colored sweater underneath. By boot wraps I assume you mean Gamaschen (overshoe things). You can get postwar Gamaschen that are nearly identical to the war time models (this is what I have). They are reasonably priced, reproduction ones are twice the cost or more. www.hessenantique.com/Gamaschen_p/ha18862.htmAgain please let me know if you really want to order these (along with that helmet chin strap). I need to get straps for my gas mask can from the same site and we can save on shipping by ordering together. Alternately, it wasn't uncommon to see guys with socks pulled over the outsides of their pants instead, but this only looks good if you have the right boots (German low boot reproduction cost about $150). The brass buckle isn't quite right, but I am not worried about the little details as this is our first event and we are all trying. A reproduction "GOT MIT UNS" is $26-$50 depending upon the quality.

I will definitely let you know when/if I am going to order anything. I have to wait and see how much money I am going to have left over after taking care of business. I've been checking some of my resource material and getting ideas also.

Hey, how close is the East German uniforms that I see all over the place to the WW2 stuff?

I have heard of people wearing modified swiss, but i think very few reenactment units allow them anymore. Do you have a web link to an east german one? No one wears them to my knowledge.

Okay, just checking. Saw several on eBay but the type of material didn't look quite right, and the stuff that did was somewhat pricey anyhow.
I did find a seller of some pretty cool Waffen SS repros with very reasonable prices, right around $60-80.00, which is still out of my price range but within reach at the same time.

If you want to get more into the Waffen SS you should contact the SS guys in the PNWHG. They can give you some direction on the uniform and a lot of the guys have extra gear sell internally at really cheap prices too.

GOOD NEWS!
We may have a fully outfitted visiting Fallshchirmjaeger joining our small event. He may also have some extra equipment to help us bolster up the German impressions. More soon.

I have stuff for one more GI, maybe two. Jimmy will have his Jeep and his new M1919. It's not blank adapted yet, but maybe we can live-fire it.

Thats OK, just do your best. You should be prepared to bring both GI and German impression since you could easily swing either side.

Anyone else sign up for German side? The Ardennes Offensive was a major operation for the Germans, it would be silly to have two or three Germans against a couple dozen US. Going to try and use the next check from my second job to hopefully pick up some stuff, we'll see.

There is a good chance I will be bringing one or two more with me, a possible show by a Fallschirmjaeger, and one of the GI's has a friend that wants to go German as well. I think that will even the odds as I am expecting only about a dozen of us.
Besides, you and I alone are worth at least two dozen GI's!!!
