Greetings and Happy New Year to all!
So you guys must have all tied one on lately, not much going on on this forum.
I look forward to eventually reenacting with some Spokane types at some point in the future.
The Bulge event in a couple weeks doesn't look like it is a go, Unless Sean can get the required insurance. Perhaps I speak out of turn, but just curious about what is happening with this event as well as other events planned up there.
From my perspective it seems as if there aren't enough WWII reenactors in this area to support a separate organization. Your options then are limited, You can hope to be invited to other larger organizations events, but to sponsor an event yourselves that won't work. I have had very good experiences at events with the RPS, and highly recommend them as an organization, I am sure there are others who prefer other organizations, I guess my point is that in order to pull off an event where insurance is required, we need insurance, and a larger organization to help with that. If however, private land is available, and the owner is OK with accepting the liability, then that is an option, perhaps I state the obvious.
Crawling back under my rock,
Kevan Bowen 3rd AD 36I RPS

Hi Kevan, I think the purpose of this mini organization was really to promote reenacting in the area. We are all members of the larger organizations and, I at least, don't plan on attempting to replace them by this organization. it also explains why perhaps we are less organized when it comes to putting together an event. The group I am in is in flux at the moment otherwise I think think this would have been pulled off better and I could have leveraged them more effectivly. I will very likely become a member of the RPS this spring too and look forward to seeing you more. I am sure some of the others on this forum may disagree with me here too. Klaus

Hi Klaus, I look forward to seeing your group at RPS events in the future, if that is what your group decides to do, we are usually GI heavy at our battles anyway, so I think it would be a good fit. I guess, my suggestion would be then, to plan events on private property, if possible till we can get the insurance end of it taken care of.
I applaud all of your efforts to promote WWII reenacting in the area, I know you all have worked hard to make it happen, and with the lousy economy, it is a tough sell, to get folks to pony up with the money to start a new hobby.
Good luck with your efforts, I will certainly support your efforts when possible. Kevan

Happy New Year to you all. I agree with Sean as we are not trying to start another organization. That is the last thing we need here in the Northwest. ;D We just want to promote reenacting in Spokane. Thanks to Sean, we have doubled in size here in Spokane. I'm also probably going to follow Sean and make a move to the RPS. My last event was with the RPS and boy they were a great bunch of guys. My only problem is I don't want to do 101st !! ;D Things will be changing in 2010 locally and possibly with the other organizations if things don't change. Would love to go to another RPS event. Maybe I'll have to hang up my AB stuff and make the move back to a ground pounder.

Happy New Year guys.
Sounds like insurance is still the big thorn in our sides, as I've heard nothing new for weeks. Does this require that we are actually part of one of the established reenacting organizations? How big of a hassle is this?
I guess the big questions is if our January event is going to be "officially" postponed to a later date. It may be a good idea to let the park rangers know, although I doubt there are people falling over one another trying to get permits for this time, I think it would be a stand up thing to do. If we're going to postpone, I can contact Ranger Vierra and let them know, then we can reset for a different op.

Hi Nick, Just curious why you have an aversion to the 101st, My experience with the RPS 101st, has been nothing but positive, Kevan

I think just because they are over done, at least in theory. Do you have a web address for the 101 in the NW?

The 101 guys are great, like Sean said, the 101 is way over done!!! The only reason I went 82nd was I didn't want to do 1st ID. If need be I would join them if things didn't pan out with my current organization. So far nothing bad to say about the RPS. A great bunch of guys!!

Klaus, I looked at the RPS website, and unfortunately the only 101st link was to the California group. Concerning the 101st being overdone, I guess it is all about perspective, I would contend that the rest of the units are underrepresented, I do understand that the 101st is very popular though. At most of the local RPS events there are usually 6 to 12 101st guys, barely a squad and definitely not overdone, Last year I went to an RPS event at Camp Roberts, and that was cool to see probably a whole company of 101st guys at the morning formation. I do agree that in the reenacting community though the 101st is out of proportion compared to the other units. Looks like the rest of us have our work cut out for us. All we need is a cool movie or HBO miniseries about the 3rd Armored Division/1st ID/ 82nd AB/ 272nd/ 2nd Panzer/ or substitute your favorite unit. Kevan

I agree about the 101 guys though. At least with the 82nd you can do more events, 101 is very big over here in Germany and Europe. it is all because of HBO and there Band of Brothers. As far as you r Insurance. i ran into the same problem when I was starting my club over here. But we formed a group I pay about $120.00 a year for $6,000.00 dollars coverage. I also have to have the re-enaactors sign a liability wavier sheet prior to coming here, it is apart of the registration. No waiver sheet, no play, but I usually carry extras just in case someone forgot theirs. Can you ask around to some insurance agancies and see if they can cover for you guys? Could you form a little group (just for insurance purposes, and if you could just form a little group called WW2 re-enactor guys, or something) Then you could do little events like that. Just my zwei pfennings note. Well have a happy new year and many safe and fun events. 4.5 months then I return to the states, YAHOO!!!!!!!
