The German winter boots you are talking about are this I wear a pair of those when i go to winter battles. The Germans also made what today are called sentry boots , for troops on sentry duty when they had to stand for long periods of time during winter. The boots where made of leather and heavy wool , plus the soles where made of wood , since wood is a good insulator. The boots where meant to be worn over your regular boots.

They're not too bad. They are only $75 on ATF, or were you talking about the sentry boots?
