I am going to send out a craigslist add in a few days to get people to come to my house and have a little event to see if anyone might be interested over here. if you guys want to trek over it'll probably be in two weeks. Also Nick, thanks for letting me use your M-1 it was a pretty sweet rifle. Ian

Iam currently bartering with Clarks All Sports on a Kar98 as well. What's nice about it is that it still works as a Viet Cong impression! Evidently the Soviet Union sent all of it's captured Nazi stockpiles to her third world revolutionary allies during the cold war. So the rifle could pull double duty.

Greetings all, Looks like you guys had a good event, Hopefully We can make the next one. I work at least 2 weekends a month so it is hard to make some events. My next event will be an RPS event in Jan. At Camp Roberts in CA. We get to crew an M8! Yee Haw!!!! Thank goodness the price of gas has gone down enough that it makes it almost affordable to travel. Take care you guys, and who knows maybe we will be able to attend the next one. Kevan Bowen

They want 360 for it. Iam on gunbroker and auction arms all the time and can tell you that is abit high. You can buy a mitchell mauser for that. This K98 has the nazi stamps on it.........but looks like a T34 ran over it repeatedly. It looks like this one only rougher (and note the price). www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=117620094Unless the service grade mauser looks much worse than pictured: www.mauser.org/rifles/K98k%20German/index.htmI'd say its the way to go. Maybe Sean can weigh in on this. (If I have hijacked this thread, I apologize)

Question, I have already seen a couple of pics with the FJ with M42 type helmets, The question is, When did they go to those types of helmets, and why didn't they have the FJ helmets? I am kind of new to the uniform ID thing, but I have studied WW2 for some years, but never paid much attention to the uniforms tilll I started re-enacting. Thank you for the help Otto

The FJs never switched from the M38 jump helmet to the M42 , but at around '44 there was a shortage of M38s and new replacement troopers where issued with Luftwaffe M42s , by the time of the Battle of the Bulge there where no jump qualified FJ units and the new FJ divisions where made up Luftwaffe ground personnel with no jump training at all , this troops came from flight units that had no planes because of the massive losses inflicted to the Luftwaffe by the USAAF , so you had mechanics , Flak gunners and any one who they could get their hands on to give a rifle to , usually this guys just brought their own M42 helmets along and just got issued the Jump trousers , jump boots , jump smock and weapon. There where even members of the Kriegsmarine that had no more U-boats or surface ships to man that where used to make up the new FJ division , this FJs had no for the most part very little combat training so they could not fight as well as the more seasoned FJ units and could not complete their given objectives.
