Huertgen forest is actually more appropriate since Wacht am Reihn didnt happen until after the new year.
Depending upon what interesting terrain features available at the site, we will totally do some defensive scenario like this. There is always an objective in mind. Here are some that I have seen used at events:
Hold the line: enemy forces create a break through and move through your line to some "safe" zone
Capture objective: a bunker, a hill, crossroads, a building, etc
Ambush: This usually occurs when...
The unit leaders will have a meeting before the battles start to agree to the initial scenario. The next scenario usually isn't really determined until after the first is done to see how everybody feels and what new tactical options were discovered.
The battles may have some additional rules:
Battle ends when one side is eliminated or time runs out. It doesn't end just because the objective was taken, it must also be held from counter attack.
A continuous battle, were after one side is clearly or mostly eliminated, survivors rally around the unit commander some distance from the battle and then re-enter as reinforcements.
Hmmm, sort of a Hurtgen Forest thing, huh? Okay, that would work, but there'd be no objectives or anything? Would be cool to hold a crossroad or a hill, have both units set out to accomplish this and trying to accomplish the same mission?
