Basic gear: Uniform, boots helmet, M36 suspenders and musette bag, cartridge belt od3/kahki perferred, cateen, cateen cup and holder of course. That is the basic gear. I can let you borrow a helmet liner if I see you prior to the event. No need for the m1928 stuff, not correct for airborne. Of course weapon and ammo, wool blanket, sleeping bag and cot if you got one. Food in original wrappers or atleast take off the new wrappers or keep the stuff hidden away.

Sounds like I am well off except for the boots and the helmet liner, which can be easily corrected.
Placed my order today. Going to modify the liner I have...no way I am going to buy another liner for $95! LOL. Ordered the uniform, the helmet net and the leather chinstrap.
Nick, Is the cup style chinstrap required for paratrooper impressions?

I am all over coming to the event. The only thing I might need (and my bro if he can make it) is a M1. I am placing an order Monday to get blanks. Mr Sparkle, mind if I (we) barrow a helmet(s) for the event? All we have is the 101st spade ones.
Just thought I would ask about some loaner gear. Totally exacted : D

Redeye, no need for the chin cup or y straps on the helemt. Once the jump was made they usually were tucked up into the helmet to get them out of the way.

Cool! Looks like I might be getting the jump boots from Bruce too...I should be set!
So who is going down on Friday and what time are you planning on leaving? What time Saturday do you have to check in and at what time does the operation begin?

Should be at least one extra M1, I'll ask JImmy if you can use his.

So who is going down on Friday and what time are you planning on leaving? What time Saturday do you have to check in and at what time does the operation begin? Maybe its different for the GI's, but we check-in as soon a we arrive. You drop off all your stuff at the camp location and then move your vehicle to the parking area. Then get your uniform on and setup where you will be sleeping. At this point no non-period items should be in view of the others. Firing usually starts about 9:00am, so people start getting up by 7:00 or even 6:00. By 8:00 all your men will be assembled with all their gear and weapons ready to move out. The 272 will be digging in, so I will be camped in an area away from you. If I get a chance I will come down Friday and say hi, otherwise I will come down to your camp Saturday evening with some of my men to visit and swap stories. Klaus

So there is a set time between battles? I thought that once we began it was basically a war zone until the event's completion...including operations at night.
We probably won't know the mission until we get down there, correct?

Night operations are generally not the norm.

Seeing how my brother and I are just getting started we do need a little help and its great that we can look to all you guys for help. My brother and I do not have time appropriate sleeping bags...ideas? And what are, if any, the rules about cell phones? Thanks again! Just ordered my blanks today!!! SO STOKED!!!

Ranger, modern sleeping bags are fine, just need to throw a GI wool blanket over it.

And what are, if any, the rules about cell phones? Each squad is equipped with a single cell phone. Cell networks were very common in Normandy in 1944. If your Squad Leader knows the phone number of the enemy he can call them up and say "Jerry, your dead! I see you behind that bush. Now take your hit and go back to the dead pool." In other words, try and keep it out of site and ear shot at all times. I set mine to vibrate and carry it in a secret pocket in case it is needed for emergencies. Klaus
