I take it we've gotten no further with the insurance angle. This may of already been discussed, but wouldn't the easiest course of action to become affiliated with RPS or the other reeancting organisation? Is this possible, or are we trying to do something on our own (a seperate organisation?)?

All we need is for the RPS to set this on their list of events. I am planning on talking to Chuck in person at the Feb event about doing just this. Myself and my unit is officially affiliating at the event. The problem about using the PNWHG, is that this would have had to have been on the list of events last year.
You however, should join a unit, or create your own and get the RPS to recognize it.
I personally don't want to create yet another reenacting organization, as we don't have the money or membership to support it. Currently what we are is a club that promotes public education and WWII reenacting in our area, and a great way for us local guys to stay in touch.
BTW, I spoke to a guy today who would like us to put up a display in Rockford, WA, 37 miles from Spokane. More on this soon.

Okay, it looks like I will hook up with the 1ID with Jimmie and Blake. Are they RPS or PNWHG however?

They are the new WMHS. Get in contact with Blake and should be able to get you all squared away.

Are WMHS members able to attend RPS events? Gads this is getting confusing.

I agree, it is confusing, especially when there are what, maybe a dozen reenactors in this area who are fairly active, and then to have 2 or 3 different organizations pulling us all in different directions.
Don't know much about this new WMHS, but the RPS is very selective on who they invite to join, mainly due to conflicts in the past. Which from my limited experience with the RPS is probably a good thing. Having said that, the RPS guys are far from being elitist, they just want to eliminate any potential problems in the future.
Last year I had an opportunity to talk with the unit commander of the 101st, Dan Limb, He is a great guy and a person I have a great deal of respect for. He told me that the 101st tried to create an elite unit without being elitist about it, which pretty much sums up most of the units in the RPS that I have had any dealings with. Other's mileage may vary.
It would be nice though to have all the members of this forum agree on one major organization to belong to so we wouldn't have to worry about what group belongs to what organization. Probably not going to happen though.
Just my 2 cents,
Kevan

Actually Kevan for the reenactors on the board I think the majority of us are moving to the RPS. Only a few are with the WMHS. Klaus and his group of followers ;D have made the move and the 82nd will be as of next month. Though sadly it sounds like the 82nd is gonna fold up and join Dan Limb's 101. I'm a little upset about that. I perfer not to do 101 so if that happens I may look at what it takes to start a group. A buddy of mine that I have been trying to get back into reenacting again would be interested in helping me start a unit. So we will see. Things are always changing.....

Well Nick...........There's always the good old 3rd AD, Sure beats walking ;-) Seriously, We are planning on a couple of events this year, where we are planning to make maximum effort, should be couple nice jeeps, Chuck's M20, and if things go right, a WC 51. all of which require lots of infantry support.

You know Kevan, that is a really good suggestion, hey Mike you could join the 3rd AD also! Do you have contact information for them to share?
I wouldn't worry too much about the RPS and the WMHS either. All of us Spokane guys all try to attend the same events anyways. And since there is only one German unit in the WMHS, and thats SS, means that I will rarely ever attend a WMHS event. And Blake and Jimmy are both honorary members of the 82nd, so they can attend RPS events anyways.

LOL, okay, then I should start looking at joing RPS, possibly the 3 AD? Blake, Jimmy, whats your take on all of this?
Nick, if you're going to start you're own 82nd group, would it be strictly paratroopers or would glider troops be welcome also. I'd be willing to add my and my son's name to that roster if so.

Personally I think Doc would rather start an infantry group, right Doc?

If we do start it will not be a AB unit. Possibly Cav or something out of the norm. Between me and my buddy we will have 2 jeeps (maybe 3) a WC51 and the GMC 2 1/2 ton. So we would want to tailor a group around the equipment. Course most of the rigs would never make it down to Oregon so we need to start getting events up here in Spokane/Northern Idaho area!!
Kevan, how many events per year do you guys do? I guess I wouldn't mind joining the 3rd AD.

Hi Guys, Sorry for not getting back sooner, working night shift this weekend If you go to the RPS website, Go to the Allied units page, there is a link to the 3rd Armored Division 36th Armored Infantry Regiment, The unit commander is Rich Mason, Click on the link and it will take you to the groups website, most of the photos are a couple years old, but you can also look at the RPS website photos at all the events held up here in the Northwest going back a few years. Anyway, I think that the 3rd AD 36-I would be a good fit as far as vehicle types go. I love the vehicles, so for me it was a no brainer to hook up with the 3rd. Not to mention, that the 3rd AD and especially the 36th Armored Infantry has a great history in the ETO. When we do the N. Africa event, we go as 1st AD. Oh....and then there is the great gear the Armored guys can use, musette bags instead of those horrible haversacks, tankers jackets, gotta love em, vehicles to carry your stuff in, makes you wonder why a person would want to belong to any other unit As far as events go, we try to make every Northwest RPS event, as well as maybe one Southwest event a year. Having said that, it isn't always a huge turnout at all the events for the 3rd AD, that is why this year we are going to try and focus on a couple events and put maximum effort into those events, for example, the event coming up at Rilea, I am sending 3 of my sons, Chuck and his xo will be there, and not sure about Rich Mason, who has usually 4 to 6 of his squad (sons and friends) there. maybe 1 or 2 jeeps, and that will probably be it for the Rilea event as far as the 3rd AD goes. The event in June however is down at the property near Lyle, where we will have max effort on the 3rdAD, by that I mean there should be a couple jeeps, an M20, and perhaps a wc51, It is tough getting the M20 to events, Chuck has to hire a semi-truck to haul it, so it isn't feasible to bring it out to all the events. I am not in a position with the unit to invite anyone to join, and I hope that I didn't give that impression, however I am good friends with the leadership, and if you guys would like, I can talk to Rich Mason about you all joining the 3rd AD. Of course that is assuming that you guys are interested in joining. I am sure that Rich would welcome you all. I just don't want to overstep my bounds, and speak when I have no authority to do so, That is how a guy can get in trouble in this hobby, and having learned my lesson years ago, prefer to be a facilitator and not a troublemaker. So...........All I can say is check out the website, If you go to the Rilea event talk to Rich, my sons, as well as the other guys, see if the 3rd AD would be a good fit for you and then we can go from there. Over the last couple years, I have really enjoyed being a 3rd AD guy, great bunch of guys, never had an ounce of trouble, no whackos, in the group, just a bunch of genuine good guys. Kevan
