Got my M1928 pack today. Can someone explain how the bloody thing works? LOL. I think I've figured most of it out. Can't see how they really carried much in this thing. Does the shovel go atop the meat can pouch on the back, or beneath it. I am thinking above it. Does the second set of front pack straps loop around to clip on the pack like on the M36, or do they clip onto the web belt? Help Ed! ;D

Don't attach the haversack to the cartridge belt , most combat troops used it as a regular pack and dropped them as they went into combat , it makes it easier to drop the pack if it's not attached to the cartridge belt.
The entrenching tool goes under the meat can , if you have the M1910 entrenching tool , the handle points down and you attach the cover to the attachment point under the meat can pouch . The M43 works better if you just slide it under the meat can pouch from the top and don't attach it to the pack.

Found the old pics of my pack , they will have to do until i get home tomorrow , since i am working in Wenatchee i don't have access to my stuff. Front view of the pack , you can see how the M43 entrenching tool is under the meat can pouch Back view , you can see the straps attached to the D-rings at the bottom corners of the pack When i get home i can take photos of how to pack the contents of the haversack if you want.

Any chance I can get a zoom on what strap connection goes to what point? I've been monkeying around with it but it still just does not seem correct.
