Hello to all! I am new to the forum and am interested in the re-enactments and am wondering how the axis/allies thing works out with you guys. personally i have no preferance when it comes down to it but as you may know some equip is easier to obtain depending on the side you "choose" i suppose. My grandfather has some gear that i could use if he'd let me and i think he has an old sprinfield 1903 sitting in a case in the basement. But maybe im going about this all wrong and i want replica stuff? Im assuming it is preferred that i try to get a working rifle for the use of blanks, but then again i know nothing of how this group works so I'd love to know more info! Thanks!

Hey strum. Yeah axis/allies is basically personal preference on what you would like to do more of. It is cheaper to do alliance impressions over German impressions because a lot of allied things were made post war. As far as using your grandfather's things, i would personally use reproductions when it comes to re-enacting just because there is more rolling around in the mud and things could get ripped, and you wouldn't really want to do that to original things especially if they belonged to you grandfather. Also the wool pants the stitching in the crotch and but are single stitched so they have a tendency to "blow out." if you want to take a look at some reproduction things to get a feel on what price's would look like check out some dealers like www.atthefront.com , onlinemilitaria.net/ (use to be whatpriceglory just changed their site), www.ima-usa.com , www.1944militaria.com/ (german things) , cheaper than dirt does have some things but its cheap stuff that falls apart on you . ebay does have somethings if you look through the military section under WWII just look at the location of the uniforms from there most come from china and other asian countries so they might be super cheap but what i found out about those is the stiching is horrible and the buttons always fall off . if you wear a smaller size say a 36R then you are one of the lucky few who can buy orginal uniforms for cheap and use those! . But there is always loaner gear out there too , just ask the guys everyone here has more then one impression (usually) if not then they will hook you up till you get you'r own. As far as your 03a3 Springfield goes, be a good weapon for an early Marine impression, check the date on the rifle it will say on the barrel just below the front sight of the gun, should have a little ordnance (bomb and flame) stamp above it, that would give you a feeling of when/where it could have been used. m1 garand or m1 carbine would be a good choice doesn't, you can look at firearms at www.gunbroker.com (the ebay of guns! lol, just need a FFL to ship things to you or a C&R license, you can also have them ship guns to hunting stores like the one in newport, its what i did with my m1 garand got it for $600) Hope that helps, i know its a lot to take in at first but you'll be fine.

Come out to an event and borrow some gear. As long as you're not really tiny or huge there's always enough loaner stuff, so you can check it out before you drop the significant amount of cash this hobby requires. As far as the rifle it's fine to bring an '03. I probably would not if it's in immaculate condition or is a very early model or rare manufacturer. It's not wrong to have an '03 for what we do, it's just 'less right'. Entirely possible, just unusual. There are usually loaner weapons available, and usually extra ammo too. Of course I'm speaking from the US side. Not that the krauts need more guys, but they have a similar supply of loaner stuff for new recruits.

But the Krauts do need more guys. We have more Americans and more American loaner gear in the Spokane area than we do Germans and stuff. The Heer infantry impression (what I do) is the cheapest of the German impressions. In the end you will spend about $1500. US GI is a bit cheaper, but I understand that US AB is at least as expensive (correct me if I am wrong Doc). Come to the darkside Herr Sturmgewehr. Original German k98's are $250-$300. An original Sturmgewehr is $20,000. Check the Gear page on my website here: www.272nd.org/272_gear.htm

No don't do it Strumgrewehr. Klaus is very convincing and an amazing goose stepper! He's very knowledgeable Strum and he's the man to talk to when it comes to German Heer.
Right now a full AB impression from ATF (at the front) is going for $595.00 everything but the weapon.

Or, for less, a ground pounder impression works well. This is where I am at and I've invested around $200 or so over the course of the past year or so. Granted I already had two WW2 vintage US rifles, which is a big chunk of the bill. One thing about Mausers, you can get them much cheaper than a Garand or 30 Carbine.
But yeah, Klaus is quite the recruiter...

Yes we should I think perhaps a uniform required meeting is in order. Got a place we can meet without drawing too much attention?

Oh yes, A group of people dressed as germans would look wonderful in the walmart parking lot at midnight! haha. Yes. Well before we figure out where maybe we should figure out when? Find a date that works for everyone.
How soon would everyone be willing to meet up for a meeting?

A good way to start out doing German would be Volkssturm. Just start getting the gear little by little until you have a full kit.

The 29th works for me. I work but it is a morning shift, so anything past 10am will be fine.
