After the drop on Kreta and the heavy losses suffered by the Fallschirmjager while trying to reach the weapon containers to retrieve their rifles and machineguns , the Luftwaffe sent out a request to Mauser to create a new weapon for the FJs that they could drop with and be able to engage the enemy as soon as they hit the ground.
Mauser's solution to this problem was simple , take a normal K98k and turn it into a takedown weapon, easy to carry and fast to reassemble .

Only the test example was made , because Hitler halted any plans for major FJ jump operations .
